A Promise That Shapes the Bible
In Genesis 12, God calls Abraham out of his homeland and makes him a promise: land, descendants, and blessing for all the families of the earth. Almost everything that follows in Scripture unfolds from this covenant.
Three Parts of the Promise
- A land for Abraham's descendants.
- A great nation that would come from him.

The New Testament identifies Jesus as the promised Seed of Abraham. Through Him, people from every nation are welcomed into the family of faith, and the blessing promised to Abraham reaches the ends of the earth.
